Councillor John Bell was first elected as a Labour Councillor in 1999 and now represents the Kilbirnie and Beith Ward. Following the May local government election he was appointed Deputy Leader of the Labour Group.
During the previous Administration Councillor Bell was the Executive Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services. He is now a member of the Council’s Local Development Plan Committee, Planning Committee and Local Review Body, Police and Fire and Rescue Committee and the Staffing and Recruitment Committee along with being a member of the Communitys & Lifelong Learning Advisory Panel.
Councillor Bell also sits on several external bodies including the Ayrshire Educational Trust, Geilsland Residential School Consultative Committee and Kilbirnie Loch Management Committee.
Councillor Bell has worked extensively in the computer industry and still works part time as an IT Manager for a Facilities Services Company. He is a founder member and now Director of the Radio City Association, a volunteer coach with the community football club and is a member of Unite Trade Union. Born and bred in Kilbirnie, Councillor Bell lives in the town with his wife and three children and in his spare time enjoys football, politics and cycling.
