Councillor John Bell was first elected as a Labour Councillor in 1999 and now represents the Kilbirnie and Beith Ward.
Following a change to the Administration in August 2016, Councillor Bell was appointed Depute Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Education and Youth Employment.
Councillor Bell also sits on the Appeals Committee, the Staffing & Recruitment Committee, the Garnock Valley Locality Partnership, the Planning Committee & Local Review Body and the Local Development Committee. He also represents North Ayrshire Council on the Ayrshire Educational Trust, COSLA Education, Children and Young People Executive Group, Geilsland Residential School Consultative Committee, Kilbirnie Loch Management Committee and the Spier’s Trust Committee.
Councillor Bell has worked extensively in the computer industry and still works part time as an IT Manager for a Facilities Services Company. He is a founder member and now Director of the Radio City Association, a volunteer coach with the community football club and is a member of Unite Trade Union. Born and bred in Kilbirnie, Councillor Bell lives in the town with his wife and three children and in his spare time enjoys football, politics and cycling.
