Councillor Donald Reid was re-elected as a Labour representative for the Kilwinning Ward in May 2012 having lost the 2007 election.
Councillor Reid is the Chair of the Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board. He is a member of the Council’s Licensing Board and Committee as well sitting on the Appeals Committee and Local Development Plan Committee. He also represents the Council on several external bodies including Ayrshire Shared Services Joint Committee, North Ayrshire CCTV Limited, the Outdoor Access Forum and Strathclyde Passenger Transport.
Brought up on his parent's dairy farm in Lochwinnoch, Councillor Reid started out on a Youth Training Scheme in 1987 with Cunninghame District Council; the highlight of which was being involved in the Glasgow Garden Festival. He completed his YTS placement at Sunnyside Nursery in Kilwinning where he stayed for 13 years. From 2001 Councillor Reid worked for eight years in the Claremont Hotel in Kilwinning carrying out numerous roles which led to him completing a Customer Services Grade 1, followed by another two courses at James Watt College. Councillor Reid has also worked as a Caretaker for North Ayrshire Council; he still works at Ayr Racecourse and also for G4S. Councillor Reid’s interests are walking, community work and developing his computer skills.
