Councillor Alex Gallagher was first elected as a Labour Councillor in 2007 and represents the North Coast and Cumbraes Ward. 

Councillor Gallagher is the Cabinet Member for Post Covid-Renewal.  He Chairs the North Coast Locality Planning Partnership and the Local Development Plan Committee.  He sits on the Ayrshire Shared Services Committee and is a substitute member of the Appeals Committee and the Staffing & Recruitment Committee. He represents North Ayrshire Council on the COSLA Environment and Economy Board , Hunterston Site Stakeholders Group, Economic Development and Regeneration Strategy Board, North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership Board, Scottish Councils Committee on Radioactive Substances, Highlands & Islands European Partnership Board, Highlands & Islands Territorial Committee, Industrial Communities Alliance, West of Scotland European Forum, Kelburn Castle Restoration Works Trust, Millport Economic Forum, Interim Ayrshire Development Board , Clyde Ferry Users Group (substitute) and the Scottish Islands Federation (substitute).

Councillor Gallagher has been the Chair of the Viking Festival since 2010.  He is married with two children and two grandchildren. He has a Master’s degree in Computer Integrated Manufacture and has had a career in Quality Management.
