Councillor Ian Clarkson has been a Councillor for 24 years, firstly in Kilwinning and for the last 17 years has represented the people of Irvine. He became Provost of North Ayrshire on 31 August 2016. Councillor Clarkson was Depute Provost from 2007-2012, Chair of the Licensing Board from 2012-2016 and Chair of the Marymass Festival Committee from 2003-2012.
Councillor Clarkson represents North Ayrshire Council on the Lowland Reserve Forces, Cadets Association, Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Supporting Veterans, North Ayrshire CCTV Limited and the West of Scotland Archaeology Services Joint Committee. He is also North Ayrshire’s Veterans Champion.
Councillor Clarkson lives in Irvine and is married with two daughters and has three grandchildren, Bethany, Blair and Leo. He is a keen gardener and when away from work he likes to spend time in his greenhouse.
