Councillor Marie Burns was first elected as an SNP representative for the Irvine East Ward in May 2012.  She held the position of Cabinet Member for Economy and Employment until August 2016 when there was a change of Administration.  Following the Scottish Local Government Election in May 2022 she continues to represent the Irvine East Ward and now holds the position of Leader of the Council. Councillor Burns is a member of the Irvine Locality Partnership.
