Councillor Donald Reid was re-elected as a Labour representative for the Kilwinning Ward in May 2012 having lost the 2007 election.
Councillor Reid is the Labour Administration’s Group Secretary and is a member of the Planning Committee, the Local Review Body, the Local Development Plan Committee and Kilwinning Locality Partnership. He also represents the Council on several external bodies including Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board, Dalgarven Mill Trust, Landfill Advisory Fund Panel, along with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and the Strathclyde Concessionary Travel Scheme.
Brought up on his parents’ dairy farm in Lochwinnoch, Councillor Reid started out on a Youth Training Scheme in 1987 with Cunninghame District Council; the highlight of which was being involved in the Glasgow Garden Festival. He completed his YTS placement at Sunnyside Nursery in Kilwinning where he stayed for 13 years. From 2001 Councillor Reid worked for 8 years in the Claremont Hotel in Kilwinning, carrying out numerous roles which led to him completing a Customer Services Grade 1 followed by a further 2 courses at James Watt College. Councillor Reid has also worked as a Caretaker for North Ayrshire Council and still works at Ayr Racecourse and for G4S.
Councillor Reid’s interests are volunteering, walking and local events.
