Councillor John Bruce was first elected as an SNP representative in May 2012 for the Ardrossan and Arran ward.
Councillor Bruce was the Cabinet Member for Education, Attainment and Achievement before a change to the Administration in August 2016. Councillor Bruce chairs the Ardrossan and Arran Locality Partnership and is a member of the Council’s Appeal’s Committee, Licensing Committee and Board, Planning Committee and Local Review Body, as well as the Local Development Plan Committee. He also sits on a number of external bodies including Arran Access Trust, Brodick Country Park Joint Committee, Clyde Ferry Users Group, Isle of Arran Ferry Committee, Isle of Arran Homes and the Strathclyde Concessionary Travel Scheme Joint Committee.
Educated at Glasgow University and Moray House College, he began his career teaching history and modern studies at Auchenharvie Academy.
Councillor Bruce has lived on the Isle of Arran since 1985 and is married with three grown-up children and two grandchildren. Apart from Scottish history and politics, Councillor Bruce lists music, literature, travel and ferries among his interests.
