Councillor Robert Barr was appointed Depute Provost of North Ayrshire Council in May 2012.
First elected in 2007, he represents the Dalry and West Kilbride and Barrmill ward. He served as a Conservative Councillor for two and half years before becoming an Independent Councillor in 2010.
Since joining the Council, Councillor Barr has been involved in a variety of Council and external bodies including chairing North Ayrshire Appeals Committee. He is a Member of the Licensing Committee as well as the Dalry and West Kilbride Locality Partnership. He is a Board Member of the Hunterston SSG and the Hunterston Marine Yard Liaison Group, the Spiers Trust Committee Trust.
After leaving school, Councillor Barr was employed with Ayr County Council’s Roads Department in the Water Department and he was in charge of the north section Ayr County Council Sewerage Department. In 1971, Councillor Barr moved to Roche Products in Dalry where he remained for 31 years. After this he went to work with Cooperative Funeral Care for nine years.
Born and raised in Dalry in North Ayrshire, Councillor Barr attended Dalry High School. He is married with a son. He is the past chairman and secretary of Dalry Burns Club and also supports the local junior football team. He is a Member of Garthlend St Winnoch (205) and also Dalry Thistle Five Star Club.
