Councillor John Bell was first elected as a Labour Councillor in 1999 and now represents the Kilbirnie and Beith Ward.  Councillor Bell is the Depute Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Education.

Councillor Bell is the Chair of the Garnock Valley Locality Partnership.  He also sits on the Appeals Committee, Staffing & Recruitment Committee and the Local Development Plan Committee and is a substitute on both the Integration Joint Board and the Ayrshire Regional Economic Joint Committee and Ayrshire Regional Economic Partnership Sub-Committee.

He represents North Ayrshire Council on the COSLA Children and Young People Board and the COSLA Convention, the North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership Board, the Spier’s Trust Committee, the West of Scotland Road Safety Forum and is a substitute member for the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park Joint Management Committee along with being a Director on the SEEMIS Board. He is also on the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

Councillor Bell is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde.  He has worked extensively in the computer industry and still works part time as an IT Manager for a Facilities Services Company and is a member of Unite Trade Union.   Born and bred in Kilbirnie, Councillor Bell lives in the town with his wife and three children and in his spare time enjoys football, politics and cycling.
