Councillor Tom Marshall was first elected as a Conservative representative for the North Coast and Cumbraes Ward in May 2012. Following the Local Government Election in May 2022 Councillor Marshall represents the North Coast Ward.
Prior to this he was a Councillor to Cunninghame District Council in 1988, where he served for two, four year terms, initially in the Fairlie, Skelmorlie and Millport Ward and later in the Largs South Ward. Formation of Unitary Councils meant he could no longer continue as a Councillor and teacher for the same authority and so he retired from the Council.
Councillor Marshall sits on the Audit & Scrutiny Committee, Staffing and Recruitment Committee along with the Local Development Plan Committee.
Councillor Marshall also represents North Ayrshire Council on the COSLA Convention, Haylie House Board of Trustees, Hunterston Parc Liaison Group and Hunterston Stakeholders Group.
