Councillor Matthew Brown was first elected to the Council in 1977 when it was known as Cunninghame District Council. He served as Provost during this time. He was then elected to North Ayrshire Council in 2007 representing the Irvine West ward and acted as SNP Group Leader for three years.
Councillor Brown is the Chair of the Planning Committee & Local Review Body and sits on the Local Development Plan Committee and the Irvine Locality Planning Partnership. He also represents North Ayrshire Council on the Ayrshire Joint Planning Service Steering Group and the Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board
Councillor Brown was first employed with Rolls Royce as an engineer. He then moved into the field of Law; specialising in court matters, specifically Criminal Law. He is married with two sons and has four grandchildren.
